The Scilly Isles are one of those ‘secret’ destinations that not many people hear about, but that’s gotta’ change! It seems like us Brits have been keeping this beauty spot to our selves, sorry! ☺

Situated 30 miles or so, off Cornwall – this archipelago of Atlantic islands are a truly spectacular wonder for a tranquil break away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

We were fortunate enough to spend a whole week exploring these Islands a few months ago! It was an ideal visit, with the islands have some beautiful weather due to the warm currents of the Gulf-Stream. Pumping warmer climates from the Caribbean, the Gulf-Stream keeps the Scilly Isles smothered in a blanket of heat.

The islands themselves are relatively small… it’s a sure fire bet that you wont find a Nando’s, Tesco, ‘Pret’ or Oyster card top up station anywhere in the island. How will I ever claim my free Nando’s chicken? ☹ In all seriousness, the islands have an awesome range of small, local restaurants that pride themselves on local produce and delicious cuisine in a setting that is as peaceful as one can imagine. In-fact, I’m pretty sure there are no cars on some of the islands, too – which makes for some unbroken natural beauty that seems to envelope these islands.

I recently found out about the upcoming Walk Scilly Weekend – which, I must add, is nowhere near just walking! They have an action packed exploration of the islands that will touch each of your senses… including mine if you take me along too! ☺

Take a look at some of the activities being held:

It’s Suppertime: Forage For Sea-Vegetables…
One thing that I have always wanted to do is join the edible seaweed adventure. Once the tide falls, those Scilly people (see what I did there ☺) and visitors alike undertake an adventurous scramble across rock-pools and sea-cliffs to discover the nutritious sea-vegetables that will be cooked up on St. Martin’s Island. A unique experience that gives each and every visitor the opportunity to fill up on some foraged delights!

It’s The Perfect Time For A Sunset
I only just found out that the autumn months are some of the best to visit Scilly. The days can still be very warm (especially compared to the rest of the UK) with the softer hues giving way to some truly remarkable sunsets and sunrises that blanket the islands. I’m already planning my Instagram sunset pic! 🙂

Spot Some Seal Pups!
Okay, so the cutest of the cute breeding season is upon the Scilly Isles right now. If you’re lucky you might spot some adolescent seal pups, or even younger ones! Seals seems to be everywhere in the Scilly Isles so you will no doubt find one seal pup. If not, you will at least be assured to find one or two randy adult seals!

Experience Some Traditional Folk Music and Local Bands
While the Scilly Isles are relatively small, they pack a hefty punch in their groovy-rhythms! During the ‘Walk Scilly’ weekend thee is even an opportunity to experience a truly traditional folk night. If you ask nicely, they may even let you join in…. well, that’s my plan at least!
