As we mentioned briefly in this post here, we’re in Italy!

Postcards From Italy (10)

Italy is such a favourite of mine and a big dream I’ve harboured for the longest time was to stay in a Tuscan farmhouse in the middle of the countryside and soak in some of that Italian ‘La Dolce Vita‘ (The Sweet Life). The original plan was to do nothing but relax, go on long walks, eat mountains of pizza and florentine steaks, sip on Italian wine and generally just be lazy.

While we got the Tuscan farmhouse part down to a Tee (there’re wild deer and wild boars running around all over the place here – see photo above and below) but alas, there’s too much to see and do in Italy than to just sit at home and be lazy so the second part of the plan went out of the window fairly quickly.

We started up north with Milan and Lake Como before moving down to Tuscany and making our way slowly through different cities, towns and villages.

  • Italy looks so beautiful! My Europe trips have been in the winter because I love seeing all of the places at Christmas, but I think this is a place that needs to be enjoyed in the spring or summer. So gorgeous!

    • HandLuggageOnly

Christmas in Europe is stunning – you’re so right, especially with all the Christmas markets, lots of hot cider, mulled wine and the smell of a Christmas tree.

It’s such a great time to visit … It’s one of my favourite things to do, wrapping up warm and enjoying the beautiful markets.

For your Tuscan villa stay, how did you handle transportation to get provisions? We are dying to stay in the countryside, but alas renting a car is like $800/month. Any towns you found that had a mix of rural, yet walkable to a town? Thanks!

    • HandLuggageOnly

We stayed for around 7 days in total and we rented a car. Totally agree about the rental and you definitely need some sort of transport… we didn’t see any local buses at all whilst we were there.

Though, what you could do, is choose a town around 10 minutes walk from one of the small train stations… this might help quite a bit 🙂
