We’re literally talking about spending just 1-second here to end up with dramatically different and rather beautiful photos (if I do say so myself 🙂 ).

Photography is absolutely subjective and while one important part of it is actually getting the right photo, the most crucial part (and sometimes, the most overlooked part) is actually editing the photo. Cameras these days are absolutely great and capable of taking rather fantastic images but they can never capture as many colours or hues as the human eye can.

Oslo Is Amazing But It Isn't The Real Reason You Need To Visit Norway, This Is Why! (21)

Then there’s the whole ‘story-telling‘ side of things with photos where you can take ‘artistic license‘ to make your photos look more dramatic/vintage/colourful/anything-else-you-want to fit in with the emotions you felt at the time you say the actual subject you photographed.

For example, a rainy day photo in a cafe in London is bound to feel and look quite different from a sunny afternoon in a park in London and that ‘feeling’ should be captured in your photo. (When we talk about ‘editing’ your photo here, we’re not talking about distorting/photoshopping your image to make the subject look different from reality, we’re talking about bringing out the best of whatever photo you’ve already taken).

Long story aside, following comments and emails that we’ve received, we’ve decided to finally put together our very first one-click Adobe Lightroom Presets to help you edit your photos. We’ve got the ‘before and after’ so you can see what each preset does and decide on which one(s) you’d want to get.

WHAT ARE ADOBE LIGHTROOM PRESETS?

If you know what they are already, you can skip this bit but if you’re unfamiliar with Adobe Lightroom or its presets, Lightroom is pretty much the best photo editing tool out there. Its what we use on here and I genuinely haven’t found a better photo editing tool out there. Its made by Adobe and allows you to organise and edit your photos the way no other tool out there can. It’s so much more straight-forward to use than Photoshop and is a lot more user-friendly.

Presets are essential like instagram filters. The same way you can select a filter on instagram and apply it to a photo is the same way you select a preset on Lightroom and apply it to your photo. It takes a second!

  • I’m loving your camera collection! What a coincidence, I also shot my vintage and film camera collection (I flat laid mine though – still working on building a display cabinet for my babies) for my latest blog post on photography tips. I do agree that 50% if not more of the work is done in post-production although I’m scared to admit it because I’ve had purists flare their nostrils at me o_O

I’ve never used Lightroom presets, I edit everything from scratch in Photoshop and it’s exhausting – I should start looking into making presets to batch edit my photos! x

You’re so right about the post-production element… we always see it like baking a cake … it’s never quite complete without the jam and cream!

We individually edited our Norway album yesterday and it took us 12 hours from start to finish.. it’s such a LONG process isn’t it!

  • Wow. I have light rooms but never really use it. Think that will change from now on! Thanks

  • MayBPhoenix

I absolutely love these and thanks for the inspiration! Wish Lightroom wasn’t as expensive, for someone who just needs it for blog pictures and only blogs for fun it’s a big investment. I was using free tools like Picmonkey and Befunky but they just made most of their filters into Premium, paid ones only so I am done there. Looking for something else now.

    • HandLuggageOnly

Thanks so much! Totally know what you mean, Lightroom can be an expensive program if you only use it some of the time. There are some really great apps like VSCO and Snapseed that are free (although you can add in-app purchases) to gain more filters.

      Hope that helps! 🙂

      Lloyd & Yaya xx

  • It’s amazing how much of a different a little filter/setting can make! I haven’t tried Lightroom out, but I think I need to give it a try!

    • HandLuggageOnly

We feel the same, Rachel. Editing can really change the ‘mood’ and emotion within a photo. Lightroom is awesome, do let us know if you get it – happy to help with any tips you might need! 🙂

  • How funny, I was just talking a few days ago about getting Lightroom and having a play with it as I’m finding Photoshop a little limiting (probably just not doing it right, but you always hear good things about Lightroom now anyway). Thanks for the tips!

    • HandLuggageOnly

Thanks so much! So glad you like the tips! Gotta love finding new ways to use Lightroom! 🙂

  • Wonderful presets! Can they be used in Lightroom’s trial version?

    • HandLuggageOnly

Hey Olga, it should be able to but the trail version you’re using should detail if you’re allowed to include the presets. Hope so! 🙂

Let us know if you need any tips 🙂
