I’ve never sailed a boat before. I’ve been on a boat sailed by someone else, I’ve even gotten very very tipsy on many a boat but never gotten round to sailing it.
When we got up on this very morning in Menorca, rain clouds standing guard and ready to pour open at any minute, it certainly didn’t feel like quite the day to learn about sailing a boat.
Turns out, I was wrong about that!
For starters, being on a boat around of Fornells (a bay in Menorca) is quite the experience!
It’s one dramatic sight after the other with stunning cliffs, hidden caves and even the odd landslide-created crevice. It’s absolutely amazing! Thing is, the lack of sunshine even add more to it’s beauty and it makes it just that extra bit more moody and desolate.
But yeah, I got to sail a boat on this very day! I tugged, pulled and to be totally honest, pretty much no clue what I getting up to aside the fact that I was changing the sails to help channel the wind – ably assisted by our captain of course (and by ‘assisted’, I mean ‘directed’).
Lloyd on the other hand, stuck to what he knew best – straight up chilling!
Eventually, after going around the bay, sipping Menorcan gin and snacking away at tidbits on the boat, we headed out for lunch (still in Fornells) at a restaurant called Es Port where I put my new found hunger to good use by performing a rather quick disappearing act on some rather delicious lamb chops. *licks lips*
By the time lunch was over, the sun had come put to play and so with this in mind, we decided to hop into the car to check out some of the areas we’d seen by boat.
The perspective is dramatically different when you’re on land (that kinda already goes without saying) but it’s no less impressive. You can explore the coves and lot more and get a better look at some of these stunning natural beauties.
Eventually, we bade farewell to the seaside (for now) and headed off inland in search for more Menorquin sights.
