Many many summers ago, I was sat at my desk on a trading floor in an Investment Bank in London, watching an intense game at Wimbledon out of the corner of my eye. It was a big match so most of the floor had stopped to watch the match (I was still fairly new to the job so couldnt blatantly partake in this – hence the ‘corner of the eye watching’) and by the end of the match – I had a new found resolve to attend a tennis match at Wimbledon in person some day.

Seeing as Wimbledon is once a year and we’ve been pretty busy almost every summer, I never quite got round to it though this summer, Lloyd and I decided to do our best to spend more time in London. London in summer is absolutely spectacular – you get to see and do so much more without the cold or rain as an excuse and contrary to what people think, London gets very hot in summer! (Like so hot you can’t sleep without air-conditioning or a fan).

Alas, weย weren’t doing so great on the whole “spend more time in London this summer” but one day, out of the blue we got an invite by Hertz – asking if we wanted to join them for a spectacular day of tennis in their suite.

Like seriously! A suite at Wimbledon? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Er… yaasss!!!” I said instantly! This was even before I found out that we would also be getting access to Centre Court (the main tennis court at Wimbledon) as well as the other courts (though there are only so many courts you can visit in a day… ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜†).

Anyway, fast forward to July and there we were – at Wimbledon finally!

We were greeted at the Suite with glasses of champagne and Pimms… and seeing as this is not time for moderation, I went for both options! (Might have looked a tad greedy with champagne and Pimms but my increasingly merry mind didn’t care one bit).

We met some friends and made new ones as we drank and chatted about everything tennis and travel. Lunch, by the way,ย and of course – the strawberries and cream had to make an appearance (which I wolfed down as the very first match on Centre Court had started already).

I’m not going to bore you with too many details here but the matches were incredible!

We got to see Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal play. Venus Williams was in Court 1 and she played at the same time as Murray so alas, we had to give Venus a miss to see our British start and World Number 1 (at least at that time) play… all the while being constantly topped up with more champagne, Pimms and delicious food!

I took my camera along to take photos for myself (and to totally brag to my friends who were at work at the time) but as I was going through them yesterday, I figured I might as well share them on here. (*It was actually the video clips I’d recorded that convinced me to share them – watching them back just brought the memories right back – which is why you might notice a distinct lack of stuff at the start and how some photos are actually just stills from the video because I only really took photos once we got to Centre Court).

All in all, it was such an indulgent day and I can’t thanks Hertz enough for inviting us over to one of the biggest highlights of British summer time! ๐Ÿ˜€

(*I’m soooo gonna be that person at dinner parties that now pretends they know EVERYTHING about tennis just because I’ve attended Wimbledon… ๐Ÿ˜€ )

Absolutely!!! I know what you mean. I never bothered enough because once I knew it was time – the tickets would be all sold out! Would definitely recommend going though – it’s so good.

This is just amazing, and what a contrast to the experience of our intern at work who we gave Friday before last off to so he could queue for 5 hours for court tickets!

Also, there is another excellent reason why summer in the city is awesome – you get to see me!! Can’t wait for dinner x

Holy cow, way to go! What an awesome experience that must have been for you two!

I took tennis lessons one summer when I was about 13 or 14 and I sucked so bad at it! The only thing I was kinda good at was serving, but THAT’S IT. I didn’t even understand the points system! So, I don’t know if it’s because I had a crap instructor or if the game is just THAT complicated, but I never properly got into tennis after that. I watched some of this year’s highlights on the news, but still, I had NO idea what was going on lol

What an incredible experience, I’m super jealous! It literally sounds like the most British-y, summer-y thing you could possibly ever do.

It was so much fun, Becky. You’re so right… the only thing missing from our day was some good old British rain… thankfully, it never showed up. Haha! xx โ˜”๏ธ

What a great read! It sounds like you both had an excellent day at Wimbledon and what a way to experience in, in a corporate box ๐Ÿ˜ƒ You had me chuckling away reading this, your excitement was palpable ๐Ÿ˜Š

Glad you got to go! For me the highlights would be the Pimms and the food. (Definitely not Pippa and her brother………LOL.) I’m not much of a sports spectator, so there is that, and am definitely not a Middleton family fan.

Thanks so much, Vava – You’d have loved the Pimms… it was soooo refreshing in the sunshine! ๐Ÿ˜Š
