Italian lakes (usually found in the North of Italy) are famous the world over!

Lake Como, Lake Maggiore, and Lake Garda to name just a few are some of the most popular so it probably comes as no surprise that we decided to visit one of these amazing lakes in Italy.

Lake Garda was our lake of choice and there’s no better place to explore Lake Garda than in the beautiful town of Sirmione.

After making a few stops on our drive over from Pizzighettone in our rickshaw (again, gotta love that slow travel with the rickshaw – you truly do get to see some much more Italy this was), we arrived at Sirmione, unsure what to expect.

I’d never been to Sirmione before and although we wanted to visit Lake Garda (everyone kept telling us to do so even when we were in Verona) we were only really visiting Sirmione based on a suggestion by one of the Italians.

Turns out, they were totally right – Sirmione is absolutely amazing!

For starters, it’s probably the first time I’ve seen a proper castle outside of the one in Milan and even more so, a castle that looks like it wouldn’t be out of place in Scotland or France. You don’t really think of Italy and think ‘castle’ do you? 🙂

We marvel at the castle outside for ages from different corners and angles before finally deciding to head into Sirmione.

Inside Sirmione, it starts to look and feel a lot more familiar – kinda like when we visited Bellagio and the general Lake Como area.

Cute little restaurants and pretty Italian houses lined the streets – sitting perfectly with the video of that castle sitting in the middle of an Emerald Lake.

Peckish, we head off in search of gelato…

… which we did find, along with other knick-knacks.

We ducked in and out of different side streets – slowly taking in the relaxed vibe of Sirmione …

…before eventually deciding to head over to our hotel in Desenzano del Garda (another cute town on the shores of Lake Garda).

Wasting no time whatsoever, we headed out in search for dinner with the rest of our group!

Dinner was an absolute treat and a delight – all the more welcome given how ravenous we were! We started off with courgette flowers, fried in the lightest batter… followed by a seafood pasta *licks lips*… soo soooooo good, and decided to ski dessert in favour of more sleep (which I really needed) and also to escape the rain which was starting to rumble in the distance.

I don’t think I was awake for more than 15 minutes once we got back to the hotel – my lack of sleep the night before caught up with me and I fell into a deliciously comfy snooze – ready for our adventures around Lombardy in our rickshaw the very next day!
