You might have guessed by now that I have a proper soft spot for everything Greek. The incredibly gorgeous Greek islands, yummy Greek food and My Big Fat Greek Wedding! Okay, the latter isn’t Greek (per se) but you get the point. Anything remotely Greek or mentioning Greece and you’ve got me hooked. The island of Rhodes is no different. Plus, there are so many incredible and best things to do in Rhodes that you’ll be spoilt for choice.

1.) Discover the ancient Acropolis of Lindos

Honestly, this is one of the best places to experience some of that rich Greek history.

After spending a little time in Lindos Village, follow the road that leads up the 116-metre high rock to see the incredible Acropolis complete with ancient walls, battlements, a temple dedicated to Athena Lindia and a Hellenistic stoa.

It truly feels like you’ve stepped back in time and one of the best things to do in Rhodes, for sure.

Best Things To Do In Rhodes, Greece (17)

Now, although it’s not Rhodes itself, Symi Island is a short boat trip away; it’s totally worth booking a day trip to explore. The island is so picturesque and quaint and this bookable full-day boat trip to Symi is easily one of the best ways to see it. We love the island.

Once there, make sure to explore Chora and Pedi Beach and stop off at; Marathounda Beach, Panormitis Monastery and the old town of Symi itself.

Best Things To Do In Rhodes, Greece (18)

Declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO in 1988, the Old Town of Rhodes is the largest medieval city in the whole of Europe and one of the best things to do in Rhodes. Now, that’s something, huh?

Best of all, it was once home to one of the ‘seven wonders of the ancient world’, the Colossus of Rhodes (a pretty huge statue of Helios) well over 2,000 years ago.

Nowadays, the charming old city has a huge mix of Greek, Ottoman and Italian heritage that has shaped the city’s feel and look.

Imagine, charming narrow streets, towering walls, ancient churches, and medieval architecture will take you back in time instantly.

GREEK FOODS TO TRY EATING (11)

If you’re a sucker for good Greek food, head over to Mama Sofia restaurant who’ll cook you up the best local seafood.

4.) Explore the Palace of the Grand Master

Best Things To Do In Rhodes, Greece (8)

If the Old City is the crown of Rhodes, the Palace of the Grand Master is the gem of the crown and totally beautiful.

Walking through this imposing 14th-century structure with ancient art, architecture, exquisite marble, sculptures, and mosaics will give you a tiny glimpse of what life was like way back when.

It’s definitely a spot you have to see in the old town and one of the best things to do in Rhodes if you love palaces.

Just remember, the palace is typically closed on Monday so plan your visit around this. Oh, and make sure to go to the Archaeological Museum too. Though, if history ain’t your thing, you might wanna give this a miss.

For a great little restaurant, pop into Angela Castle which serves proper authentic Greek food with a stunning little courtyard too. Honestly, it’s a tiny little place so be patient for your foody delights to arrive.

5.) Relax at Agios Pavlos Beach and Saint Paul’s Bay

Best Things To Do In Rhodes, Greece (6)

Not visiting the beach when you are in Greece is a cardinal sin, especially if you want a dip in those crystal clear Aegean waters.

Now, there’s a whole heap of popular beach spots in Rhodes, but one of my favourite and best things to do in Rhodes is to find a relatively quiet and peaceful spot. Agios Pavlos Beach is that place that’s pretty chilled.

In the summer, the beach does get a little busier, but we’re talking relatively low numbers of people compared to the larger beaches. After all, Agios Pavlos Beach is tiny.

6.) Ramble through the Valley of the Butterflies

Best Things To Do In Rhodes, Greece (13)

More commonly known as Petaloudes, this place is home to many incredible butterflies from the months of June to August every year. Although you can visit outside these months, don’t get your hopes up on seeing many butterflies.

Not to worry, though, It’s also an absolute haven with lush greenery and waterfalls that is totally one of the best things to do in Rhodes if you love a good ramble.

If you’re looking for some grub afterwards, head to the village of Psinthos to chow down at some local tavernas (like; To Stolidi tis Psinthoy).

The walk, or should I say hike up to the monastery is certainly worth every breath once you get up there.

Yeah, you might be a little sozzled if you do this in the midday heat but I promise you it’s worth it! Just make sure to pack lots of water and sunblock.

8.) See the street of the Knights

Best Things To Do In Rhodes, Greece (7)

If you love strolling around the old cobbled streets of Rhodes Old Town then you must head to the Street of the Knights for a little wander.

Once served as the place where knights would muster before an attack, it’s one of the best things to do in Rhodes if you’ll enjoy a little slice of history.

Best Things To Do In Rhodes, Greece (9)

Back in the day, these knights were divided according to their birthplace and accordingly there were seven “inns” depicting seven languages.

Although only four inns still remain, this street will certainly make you feel nostalgic.

9.) See the sunset at Monolithos Castle

Best Things To Do In Rhodes, Greece (3)

Who doesn’t love real castles? The Monolithos Castle is located above the village of Monolithos, about 70 km away from Rhodes town.

Its original purpose was to protect the area from enemies and pirates and although it is in ruins today, the view from up there is simply spectacular.

It really is one of the best things to do in Rhodes.

10.) See the Toy Museum, Archipoli

Best Things To Do In Rhodes, Greece (20)

Okay, hear me out on this one. I know it seems a little off-topic but the toy museum is actually quite quaint and cute. Plus, it’s a perfect little spot if the weather takes a turn for the worst.

If your little ones (or you) need a little fun break, head to the Toy Museum in Archipoli. Completely powered by solar energy, you can see all kinds of Greek toys here right from 1930 to 1990.

There’s even a games room with vintage arcade machines that are perched on the road between Archipoli and Psinthos.

Although I wouldn’t make a dedicated trip here, it’s a tiny little spot that’s worth a stop as you explore the island.

11.) Modern Greek Art Museum

Best Things To Do In Rhodes, Greece (4)

Looking for something a little more modern? The Modern Greek Art Museum is your answer. Though I have to be honest, you might not find this as one of the best things to do in Rhodes if you’re not fond of art.

If that’s you, maybe give this one a miss.

Featuring paintings, sculptures, and engravings by some of the greatest 20th-century Greek artists including Vasiliou Spiros, Gaitia Giannis, and Katraki Vaso, this is an experience you should not miss!
