I’ll be the first to admit, before moving to live in Singapore, I can’t say I knew much about this tiny country.

I had a friend living there who gave me a quick low-down on what areas to look for apartments in and told me how safe it all was…etc but that was about it.

I moved to Singapore to undertake research as part of my University work at Cambridge that I was so distracted by that part of it and didn’t focus as much as I should have done on the city itself.

I don’t even think I found my feet properly in Singapore until a couple of days in though that was probably the end of term time exam stress, an assignment deadline in 48 hours from when I arrived in Singapore, all mixed with some serious jetlag!

Once my assignment was in and I got the chance to step outside to explore the city properly, it’s safe to say I fell in love with the city straight away.

Singapore will do that to ya.

There’s so much on offer here and living here for almost half a year only served to further re-enforce that.

10 Reasons Why You Need To Visit Singapore

Without further ado – here are (at least) 10 reasons why you need to visit Singapore.

1.) The food

There’s so much variety on offer here and you’ll struggle to get bored with the amazing delicious choices available across Singapore.

It’s also quite cheap so there’s that too!

2.) The nightlife is amazing

Seriously, we’re talking about starting your night with cocktails right at the top of the world’s tallest infinity pool, heading over to bars with stunning city views and then choosing from a whole variety of clubs or night time shows.

3.) The city is very VERY green!

Despite its shining skyscrapers, Singapore is actually quite a green city.

Heading over to places like the MacRitchie Nature Trail or even places like the Flower dome depict a little taste of how green this amazing city is.

4.) Singapore actually has some pretty good beaches

5.) There’s a more rustic part of Singapore, Ubin Island

Here the pig roam wild, the monkeys swing from tree to tree and you can only get around on foot or via a bike which you can rent for the day.

6.) The shopping! There’s nothing you can’t find in Singapore

Now, I’m not much of a shopper but even for non-shopper like me, there are those times when you’ve finally decided to get yourself new lens for your camera or perhaps even new swim-shorts because your post-Christmas dieting plan didn’t quite play out like planned.

Point is, you’re bound to find anything you need to buy quite easily in Singapore.

7.) Singapore is an amazing hub for you to explore Asia

This is more for long-term travel but Singapore is a great place to be located to connect to other Asian destinations, like Ho Chi Minh or Bali and see more of that part of the world.

The connections at the airport are great and it’s so easy to get to!

8.) Public transport is pretty good here

Plus the taxis are also so cheap so really, the choice is entirely yours here.

9.) There’s Universal Studios here and it’s amazing!

I can’t even pretend – I got myself a 6-months pass when I lived here and went almost every free weekend.

10.) Singapore is safe

You could walk home on your own at 3 am in the morning and you’d be perfectly fine.

In fact, in all my time there, I don’t think I ever saw the Police once! And the police station was right next to my nearest train station.

And here are a few more reasons why you’d probably want to visit Singapore…
