Puerto Rico! The name alone conjures up images of chilled island life, tropical beauty and colourfully interesting culture (“colourfully interesting” might not be an actual phrase but you get my drift).
As popular as all the incredible places in Puerto Rico is with US travellers (it’s a US Territory after all) that only just started to get the attention it deserves all across the world as the brilliant travel destination that it is.
To be fair, for us in Europe, it’s a lot further to travel to so it involves a fair bit of planning (and money) but in case you’ve ever “Ummm’d” and “Aaaah’d” about visiting or indeed if you’ve never even thought of visiting Puerto Rico.

1.) Yummy food
Puerto Ricans sure can cook up a storm and definitely do so with a lot of gusto and passion. You’ve gotta try at least two P’s here – pork and plantains!

2.) To taste the Puerto Rican rum
Goes down well with oodles of tropical (and not-so-tropical) fruits. You need something to wash down all that great food with after all.
3.) Brilliant weather
Even the name Puerto Rico invokes images of sunshine, beautiful beaches and brilliant weather all around.
The best part, Puerto Rico definitely lives up to your expectations.

5.) To visit Old San Juan
Old San Juan is the more historic part of San Juan (the capital of Puerto Rico) and it is laden with museums, galleries, cafes, gourmet dining and all things Puerto Rican.
You can also explore the old city quite easily with free transportation to all major landmarks and points of interest.
6.) Explore the island’s history
While you’re at the whole ‘history buff’ thing – you’ll also want to check out the old historical forts.

7.) You can visit a tropical rainforest
If you love to hike, I’m guessing that’s put a huge smile on your face right now.
8.) Relax and chill
Puerto Rico does luxury quite well so this is a brilliant place to visit for that big luxurious splurge you’ve convinced yourself you deserve.
To be fair, you’ve worked hard for your money so you probably do!
9.) Visit the Pig Highway
Seriously, this is a big thing and is so much more fun than you’d imagine.
You can party with the locals all weekend long and eat any part of the pig as you explore the Pig Highway.
