It’s high time to get the summer holiday plans in gear and, inspired by the amazing colourful selection of summer essentials over at Kapten & Sons, we’ve put together an equally colourful, tried and tested selection of the very best places you need to add to your summer plans this year.
Seeing as we’ve got the summer accessories side of things sorted, let’s get started on the destinations, shall we:
1.) Ibiza, Spain
Ibiza is almost a summer essential and a no-brainer. This being said, most people tend to think of clubbing when it comes to holidaying in Ibiza and Ibiza is about so much more than that so even if you visit to party at its many famous clubs, take some time to explore more laidback and picturesque parts of this beautiful island.
2.) Phi Phi Islands, Thailand
Phi Phi Islands is home to some of the most beautiful scenery in Thailand and seeing as Thailand has no shortage of natural beauty, this is saying a lot! The flights here might set you back a little bit but once you get here, it’s a lot cheaper than most other destinations on this list and so you can have an amazing holiday here for a fraction of the price. And then there’s the fact that you’re surrounded by absolutely amazing sights with the opportunity for the holiday of a lifetime.
3.) Antigua, The Caribbean
Antigua has a beach for every day of the year and easily has the best beaches in all of the Caribbean. Even its smaller island of Barbuda has the famed pink beaches you’ve probably seen quite a lot on the likes of Pinterest and Instagram.
4.) Bali, Indonesia
Bali is a holiday-maker’s favourite and with good reason too. The landscape is stunning here, the choice of beautiful places to stay in are endless and it’s also one of the more economically friendly holidays to have as well (once you get there of course). More importantly, Bali is absolutely beautiful and its people are unbelievably warm and friendly.
5.) Tuscany, Italy
This is the ideal place to just get a car in and get lost. The amazing stunning villages and hilltop towns that line Tuscany make it a perfect summer holiday destination. And if you tire of these picturesque little villages and towns (not sure how this would be the case), you’ve got the likes of bigger cities like Florence to spend time soaking in the sights in.
6.) The Isles of Scilly, UK
We’ve mentioned these time and time again on the blog – the Isles of Scilly are like the UK’s very own version of the Caribbean (complete with clear blue waters) and is reachable a mere 30 minutes away from the mainland.
7.) Manly, Australia
Arguably, what makes Australia truly special is not its cities but instead its many stunning natural sights. Australians tend to have a brilliant work-life balance tend to the close proximity of its cities to its more natural side and Manly (a suburb of Sydney) is a perfect example of this. The only downside of visiting in our summer is that it’s their winter so you might wanna save this trip for the very end of our summer time which is when things start to get really warm down under!
8.) Singapore
Honestly, there’s no time of the year where a trip to Singapore is not a great idea. Actually, scratch that – September might be the only month to avoid due to the Southeast Asian haze which is when a lot of forest fires and burning of farmland happen in Indonesia which results in haze and smog in cities like Singapore and reduces visibility dramatically. Asides that, Singapore is perfect to visit at anytime of the year as it has a pretty consistent temperature all year round and an amazing array of sights to see, foods to eat and activities to get up to.
9.) Gocek, Turkey
This quiet part of Turkey is home to many stunning resorts and is a brilliant place to have one of the most laidback and picturesque holidays in summer. This is after all what you’ve been working hard all year for. 🙂
10.) Santorini, Greece
Santorini is a prime summer destinations and given its stunning beauty, it’s fairly easy to understand why. As with most holiday destinations in Greece, everything is at its peak in summer in Santorini and the one thing that’s worth noting is that accommodation options become harder to find so book in advance if you plan on visiting Santorini.
11.) Cinque Terre, Italy
There no way this list would be complete without a mention of Cinque Terre now is there? And with 5 delightfully colourful seaside towns to choose from, you have even more reason to visit Cinque Terre in summer than at any time of the year.
12.) Barbados, The Caribbean
Barbados is another Caribbean favourite and a truly deserving one. It’s one of the best places in the Caribbean to go swimming with turtles, savouring delicious seafood and trying out amazing rum. It’s also one of the safest Caribbean islands to visit so quite frankly, you’re bound to find very few reasons why you shouldn’t start booking that holiday to Barbados already.
13.) Florida Keys, USA
Florida Keys is one of the most amazing places to visit in Florida (and indeed in the US) on holidays and most international travellers tend to miss out on this in favour of more popular places like Miami and Orlando. Granted a visit to Florida Keys will involves quite a decent drive to get here but once you arrive and see how beautiful The Keys are, you’ll understand why a visit here is one that you most definitely need in your life.
14.) Bermuda
Bermuda tends to seem like it’s in the middle of nowhere but a mere 2 hours away from New York, its actually one of the easiest islands to visit from the US (you can also tie in a New York trip if you’ve visiting from Europe or further afield). It’s also one of the most beautiful to visit though it is worth noting, it’s rather expensive here so go armed with ‘much gold’ if you plan on visiting Bermuda this summer.
15.) Lisbon, Portugal
This city is one of the most fun cities to visit in all of Europe! There’s so much fun just waiting to be had in Lisbon’s many side streets and not to mention the many sights also waiting to be seen here. The nightlife is also pretty incredible here and a trip to Lisbon is one where you’ll find no shortage of things to do.
