The next day in St Kitts, I woke up with a surprising pain in my foot! Turns out, I hurt myself really badly on the beach the evening before from jumping around and chasing the little sandpipers on the beach.

It was the stupidest thing really – I just loved watching them all march away and tried to march with them and see how long I could keep this up before they flew away. Turns out, they can keep going for ages!

But it wasn’t the marching that hurt my foot, it was when I gave up and decided to run and jump into the water – I misgauged how deep it was (I thought it would be much deeper than it was) and landed prematurely, with a painful crack at the base of my foot.

Ever the trooper (read: in search of more rum), I soldiered on. 😉

We started off our day at Christophe Harbour (after quite the breakfast at the Marriot – which, as it turns out is one of those spots that everyone comes to have breakfast, even if you’re not staying at the hotel so arrive earlier than you would as you could be waiting for a tad longer than you’d expect).

Christophe Harbour is a much newer part of St Kitts and is where you can actually buy holiday homes on the island (the island has a citizen by investment scheme where you can become a Kittitian citizen by buying a place here). It’s also where the yachts will be docked in so it’s understandably a much shinier part of the island.

We headed over to Pavilion Beach club in Christophe Harbour – a place where you immediately decide you want to spend the rest of you afternoon in as soon as you arrive!

As though the beach wasn’t enough (we actually saw a wild turtle swimming around here), there’s a pool area, play area, bar restaurant and even beachside villas to chill around in.

We wasted no time in getting stuck in with those cocktails!

As it turns out, the Kittitian sunshine does help you work up quite the appetite 😉 and so we decided to get lunch at the restaurant here; starting with calamari for myself and conch for Lloyd (I think he’s obsessed with the conch in St Kitts).

The main attraction for lunch was the lobster rolls (don’t judge 😄 – if you’ve tried the lobster here – and hence know how good it is, you’ll know why that’s what I keep ordering 😁).

We ended up spending so much time here that we were almost late for the island safari tour we had booked for later that afternoon.

After two different trips around parts of the island, driven by ourselves, we figured it was high time to let someone else do the driving on our tour. 😉 Also, that meant we could drink rum too.

The safari tour starts back at Port Zante (remember it from here?) before heading on a tour through the many different neighbourhoods of the island stopping off every so often to check out different parts in more detail.

Fun as it was to zoom through the island on a Dune Buggy and an ATV, it was actually really interesting to get to learn more about the island at a much slower pace.

We got to find out more about aspects we would have missed otherwise – the culture, the food and even how the people coped with the hurricanes that had gone by (St Kitts wasn’t affected like other islands – they had more of heavy rain with stronger than normal winds – the island is slightly more protected than some other islands in the Caribbean).

We headed to some epic viewpoints…

…where we made a stop for rum and some island snacks! Rum, fresh coconuts, coconut candies, sugar cake, some really sweet pineapples and much more.

Rum in hand, we hopped back into the jeep and made our way back down to shipwreck beach. A rustic, cute little spot not too far from Reggae Beach where we’d been the other day.

We carried on that beach theme into the evening and moved eventually to one of the main beaches on the island – Frigate Bay.

The students were out in Frigate Bay, jello shots at the ready, music playing at different places we popped into for cocktails but we had our sights set on one place – Cathys. See Cathys apparently had the best barbecue ribs in towns, a fact we can attest to after finally getting our hands on some!

Served with provisions, rice and a side of lobster( if you want – though I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to 😄), my only complaint would be that I wanted even more ribs! 😆

Again, similar to Sprat Net, when you arrive here, give it some time for your ribs to be prepared. You can place your order if you want, kick off your shoes and head down the bay for cocktails at the many bars and restaurants that line the beach.

The rest of that evening was spent, rum-in-hand, music-in-the-air and sand-between-toes laughing, singing (badly) along to the music – with an occasional dance intermission thrown in for good measure, before finally retiring to bed on our final night in the beautiful island of St Kitts.
