One of the very first things I was told as soon as I arrived in Antigua was to visit Shirley Heights.

I didn’t know much about it but Lloyd who had been before assured me that that there were two main reasons I had to visit Shirley Heights. 1.) It has one of the best views in Antigua and 2.) Every Sunday, there’s a party where locals and visitors come to eat, drink and generally be merry!

There’s live music too.

Later on, I was convinced to get myself the full Shirley Heights experience so I headed up with my dancing shoes, a thirst for rum punch and quite a bit of an appetite!

I made my way through indoor bar area (there’s an outdoor bar too) and headed straight for a sight I knew I’d wanted to see from up here – the sunset!

The band was already in full force by the time we arrived…

… and the crowd was already pouring in.

FYI, that sunset did not disappoint! Just look at that orange Caribbean sky…

It’s one of those times of the day where the sky just keeps changing minute after minute and when you think you’ve got the ‘perfect’ sunset photo, the skies change again and dazzle you with a different burst of light.

If you look far enough in the distance, you can see the volcanic island of Montserrat.

I was definitely in good company as everyone else seemed keen to see the sunset before heading on down to party.

Once the sun set, it was time to make our way toward the bar and barbecue area. 🙂 Except juggling all that delicious goodness means you need to find a nice little patch of your own to take it all in.

It takes very little time to go for sunset to pitch dark at this time of the year in Antigua…

Food down, I joined the party which by now was in full-swing! The rest of the night was spent in a rum-punch induced haze mixed with a healthy top up of barbecue jerk chicken!

I blame the rum punch for the following blurry photos. 🙂 Hehe!

The party carried on till later that night and one thing was definitely certain, a trip to Shirley Heights, is definitely a different and entertaining evening to be had in Antigua!
