Oh, I’ve got to tell you about this place as I found it pretty special and I think you might too!

See in Alesund, there are quite a few good hotels to stay in but if you’re looking for somewhere pretty special to stay in, you should look to spend a night in Molja Lighthouse.

Why? Well because its a lighthouse you can spend a night in – that’s why! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Nah, but seriously though, it’s without a doubt one of the most unique places to spend a night in and the idea of staying in a lighthouse (which can be a daunting one sometimes because they’re usually in desolate places), isn’t quite as daunting here as you’re a few minutes walk from the city centre.

Shall we have a look inside?

The stairs here are fairly narrow and wind all the way up (the toilet and bathroom are downstairs by the way) but at the top lies this cute yet teeny-tiny little room overlooking the ocean.

Imagine just cuddling up here while the winds (and perhaps even a storm, if you’re lucky) rage outside. It reminds me so much of reading The Famous Five books that it feels almost unreal that you could actually stay here.

Alas, I didn’t get to spend a night here – we only even found out about this place literally minutes before we ‘sneaking in’ for a peek but I’d so love to stay here, even if just for one night (let’s add that to my ever growing list of reasons to return to Alesund)!

By the way, I just found out now that if you wanna stay here, you actually book it through a hotel that’s in the city centre. It’s Hotel Brosundet and you ask for ‘Room 47’ (sounds very mysterious, doesn’t it?).

Okay, I”ve gotta stop here as I need to ‘go to the gym’ – which is usually code for ‘I need to go to rummage through the fridge in the hopes I secretly find sticky toffee pudding… or any sweet treat really…’ but in this case is now code for ‘I need to get on Airbnb and search for lighthouse anywhere in the world because I’m now obsessed with the idea of spending a night in a lighthouse’.
