Banksy has finally done it… he has created his very own take on a hotel! Famed for his political pieces and his very own theme park called “Dismaland”, Banksy has conceived the “Walled Off Hotel”.
Perched right next to the controversial barrier/wall that separates Israel from Palestinian territories, the Walled Off Hotel has been conceived by Banksy as a way to highlight a very real crisis.
Take a look for yourself…
Where is Banksy’s Hotel?
The Walled Off Hotel is situated right in the heart of Bethlehem and within touching distance of the towering walls that separate Israel and the Palestine. If you’re wanting to visit, it’s likely you’ll fly to Israel to stay.
What is the Walled Off Hotel?
Firstly off, it’s a hotel… but not like any other you’ll have seen! Think of it as an artistic space, a demonstration and a reminder to us all of the bleak reality of what is a contentious situation. The hotel itself is a play on the ever so luxurious Waldorf Astoria… which has a much more opulent feel.
What can you expect inside?
Firstly, don’t imagine expect welcome drinks, hot towels and mid-day massage – the walled Off Hotel has been designed to showcase a situation that needs attention.
The rooms themselves only get about 25 minutes of direct sunlight a day! Each of the rooms comes equipped with an eclectic mix of style and panache that offers views over army watchtowers, the towering wall itself and some pretty amazing pieces of Banksy artwork – all designed to showcase the reality of the situation.
What are the rooms like?
Each of the rooms is decorated differently that offers a range of budgets and options for any type of traveller to experience the Walled Off Hotel.
Army Barracks room: The army barracks room in keeping with its name. A basic, totalitarian sleeping experience with the added extra earplugs thrown in for free (all for approximately $30 USD). With this room, you will need to share communal shower facilities.
Scenic Wall Rooms: Each of the scenic rooms offers some of the closest views you’ll ever get of the wall (almost touching distance), whilst most of the rooms being overlooked by the army watchtower outside *gulp*. Each room has it’s own shower facilities and even air-conditioning!
Presidential Rooms: The almost palatial presidential suite can house up to 6 people, with its very own plunge bath, cinema, roof garden and in room dining. An opulent experience for any president that loves walls, wouldn’t you say?
When does it open?
Banksy’s new hotel, the Walled Off Hotel, opens on the 20th March 2017 and booking can be made via his website directly (opening 11th March at 9am).
What is the address:
The Walled Off Hotel, 182 Caritas Street, Bethlehem, Palestine.
What is the purpose of the Walled Off Hotel?
As Banksy says, the project is not aligned with any political movement or groups and has been created to showcase and tell the story of the wall from every side, all whilst giving hotel guests the opportunity to discover it for themselves.
⭐️ The Walled Off Hotel is an entirely independent leisure facility set up and financed by Banksy ⭐️
