It’s a little place called Pllek and the sunsets are brilliant here! It’s one of those places you’ll probably never have heard of if you don’t live in Amsterdam (if you have though – kudos to you).
You need to cross the river on the free ferry to get there and it’s another short taxi ride to get to Pllek. Most visitors will stay in the city and never stray this far and so you’d be forgiven for not visiting this place.
That being said, if you do ever get the chance to, it’s most definitely worth a gander; especially if you’ve got your ‘squad/troops/friends/posse with you in Amsterdam.

Oh, and don’t forget, one of the easiest ways to get around Amsterdam is by booking this unlimited public transport ticket for all the ferries, buses, trams and more! This way, you can get the most out of your time in the city and be as efficient as possible.
After all, no one likes wasting time when you’re visiting a new place… especially Amsterdam.
You’ll know you’re in the right place if you spot this crane below…
..which by the way isn’t a crane but is actually a hotel!
I’m not entirely sure how I feel about a crane hotel but I’m too intrigued not to try it out so this is another potentially novel way to experience Amsterdam at some point soon… (I imagine the view is pretty good up here too – will have to find out soon methinks).
Arriving at Pllek, there’s a whole beach vibe thing going on…
… which is then contrasted by a ‘warehouse thing’ (my descriptive skills are on fire today). Ha!
The locals are out and about just chilling…
…rivalled by this dog who couldn’t chill anymore if it tried!
When I arrived, I had no idea why everyone was sitting outside, it wasn’t the coldest evening but at this point, I would have just headed inside and made a beeline for the fireplace.
Actually, that’s not true – I would probably have made a beeline for the bar/source of food and then made my way to the fireplace.
Within minutes though, it became quite apparent why people were sitting outside – the sky was on fire!
Those orange hues were not messing around and lit up the skies in the most beautiful display over Amsterdam.
I’ve honestly never seen the city look like this in all the years I’ve been here.
I thought that was it with the sunset and went in to see what I could do about the hunger creating what sounded like a thunderstorm in my tummy…
…this was until I looked back at the windows and saw that somehow, the skies had managed to get even more orange.
I abandoned all thoughts of food (for the interim) and went back outside to bask in this glorious Dutch glow.
The following photos will show you why I very quickly realised that Pllek is the best place to see the sunset in Amsterdam!
Yes, I had to try to get that silhouette jumping shot.
Eventually, the sun said farewell to the skies and I could finally go in, thorough pleased with myself and absolutely ready to eat every single item of food I could get my hands on… (and I do mean everything).
Have the most epic time in Amsterdam.
