Many many summers ago, I was sat at my desk on a trading floor in an Investment Bank in London, watching an intense game at Wimbledon out of the corner of my eye. It was a big match so most of the floor had stopped to watch the match (I was still fairly new to the job so couldnt blatantly partake in this – hence the ‘corner of the eye watching’) and by the end of the match – I had a new found resolve to attend a tennis match at Wimbledon in person some day.
Seeing as Wimbledon is once a year and we’ve been pretty busy almost every summer, I never quite got round to it though this summer, Lloyd and I decided to do our best to spend more time in London. London in summer is absolutely spectacular – you get to see and do so much more without the cold or rain as an excuse and contrary to what people think, London gets very hot in summer! (Like so hot you can’t sleep without air-conditioning or a fan).
Alas, we weren’t doing so great on the whole “spend more time in London this summer” but one day, out of the blue we got an invite by Hertz – asking if we wanted to join them for a spectacular day of tennis in their suite.
Like seriously! A suite at Wimbledon? 😱
“Er… yaasss!!!” I said instantly! This was even before I found out that we would also be getting access to Centre Court (the main tennis court at Wimbledon) as well as the other courts (though there are only so many courts you can visit in a day… 😁😆).
Anyway, fast forward to July and there we were – at Wimbledon finally!
We were greeted at the Suite with glasses of champagne and Pimms… and seeing as this is not time for moderation, I went for both options! (Might have looked a tad greedy with champagne and Pimms but my increasingly merry mind didn’t care one bit).
We met some friends and made new ones as we drank and chatted about everything tennis and travel. Lunch, by the way, and of course – the strawberries and cream had to make an appearance (which I wolfed down as the very first match on Centre Court had started already).
^Sidebar – That’s Pippa Middleton and James Middleton in the second row (from the bottom) of the photo above. 😀
I’m not going to bore you with too many details here but the matches were incredible!
We got to see Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal play. Venus Williams was in Court 1 and she played at the same time as Murray so alas, we had to give Venus a miss to see our British start and World Number 1 (at least at that time) play… all the while being constantly topped up with more champagne, Pimms and delicious food!
I took my camera along to take photos for myself (and to totally brag to my friends who were at work at the time) but as I was going through them yesterday, I figured I might as well share them on here. (*It was actually the video clips I’d recorded that convinced me to share them – watching them back just brought the memories right back – which is why you might notice a distinct lack of stuff at the start and how some photos are actually just stills from the video because I only really took photos once we got to Centre Court).
Anyway, here are the rest of the photos from our day at Wimbledon!
All in all, it was such an indulgent day and I can’t thanks Hertz enough for inviting us over to one of the biggest highlights of British summer time! 😀
(*I’m soooo gonna be that person at dinner parties that now pretends they know EVERYTHING about tennis just because I’ve attended Wimbledon… 😀 )
