It’s been a while since we’ve been to Oslo! So much so that I kinda wondered if the city had changed much since we visited (I certainly know London had since that time) and if I would even remember my way around the city (I felt like I kinda mastered it last time).
For Georgia and Chris, it was actually their first time visiting and so, when we booked our flights to Tromso, we decided to throw in a little stopover in Norway’s capital.
Getting from the airport is quite a breeze (you can do it by train or taxi) so before long, we found ourselves in what turned out to be a rather grey day in Oslo (very unlike the first time we visited).
That being said, we wasted no time in getting re-acquainted with the city – eager to show it off to the first timers, Georgia and Chris.
The train station is next to the Opera house so we started there, taking in the view from outside…
…before deciding to escape the bitter cold and head inside. (By the way, you can leave your bags at the station – they’ve got lockers here and they’re pretty big).
Leaving the opera house, we headed off in search of a quick bite to eat….
…before making our way over to the Royal Palace, soaking up even more of the city as we made our way through
…and stopping to laugh for a ridiculously long period of time when Georgia got pooped on by a bird (It was a pretty big poo too! 😆)
As we made our way over to the Palace, we soon realised we were cutting it rather fine for our return to the airport to catch our connecting flight back and with that, we picked up the pace, racing through the city at a somewhat impressive pace (for me anyway, I bet for most people, that would probably have been their normal walking pace 😀 ).
With the Palace ticked off (alas, we couldn’t go in on this visit though I think you can only visit in summer anyway), we headed back to the train station, where we were met by train cancellations!
I can’t even remember why the trains were cancelled – I just remember running around looking for taxis, where we were met by another huge queue before eventually getting an Uber (surge price too) to take us back to the airport (I remember nothing of that journey back – I was so exhausted I fell asleep the entire way).
Thankfully we arrived at the airport with plenty of time to spare and a promise to leave ourselves more time to explore Oslo properly! 🙂 Next stop – Tromso!
