14 Best Beaches In Australia To Visit

If there’s one thing Australia is famous for, it’s the amazing beaches! I mean, the whole country is totally blessed with thousands of the best beaches in Australia that are dotted all across the coast.

Coming from London, it’s understandable that my appreciation of the best beaches in Australia is borderline fanatic. This is especially true after our first trip down under where we got to spend a day exploring some of the beaches just outside Sydney, At Manly.

This is exactly why I wanted to share some of the best beaches in Australia that you should visit. Especially after seeing all the best places in Australia and the tasty vineyards here, too.

You see, Australia is totally huge and you’re gonna be inundated with where to go and what to see. This is why I’ve kept a list of my firm favourites that I hope you’ll love.

Now, best of all, remember, it doesn’t matter where you are on the coast of Australia, you’re bound to find a handful of the most epic shores to explore and chill out.

With that in mind, take a look at some of the best beaches in Australia.

1.) Hyams Beach, New South Wales

Perched in Shoalhaven, Hyams Beach is easily one of the best beaches in Australia to visit if you love white sandy beaches. You see, Jervis Bay is a total powdery paradise and it’s a stunner of a place to spend a day at the shore.

Afterwards, head out on the trails that go into Booderee National Park. It’s totally beautiful.

2.) Four Mile Beach, Port Douglas

Around 100-km from Cairns, Four Mile Beach is a totally lovely spot to spend a few days. After all, the coastline here is paradise.

After a day on the beach, check out Mount Lewis National Park, too. It’s a stunning spot to head out on a hike after a few days relaxing at the shore.

Now, at certain times of the year, this area has an influx of jellyfish. So, be warned and listen to local advice on when it’s best to take a dip.

3.) Fraser Island Beach, Queensland

Another spot not too far from Cairns, Fraser Island is easily explored via a 45-minute boat excursion from the city itself. Once here, make sure to explore the sandy beach but be very cautious with the water here.

You see, there are very dangerous riptides here and it really is somewhere where you have to be so careful.

Also, there is usually no lifeguards on patrol here so it’s only worth visiting the beach and not heading into the water itself. That being said, it’s still one of the best beaches in Australia to visit, especially when you’re exploring the rest of Fraser Island.

4.) Burleigh Heads Beach, Queensland

Burleigh Heads Beach is easily one of the best beaches in Australis for swimming and popping into the ocean for some surf. Best of all, the beach has lifeguard stations along the way for extra safety.

Now, once here, make sure to also see the views from Miami Headland. Here, you’ll see some lovely vista which is stunning after a day chilling on the sand.

Afterwards, pop into Rick Shores for some of their tasty octopus with chilli and lime.

5.) Lizard Island, Queensland

Lizard Island is near the Great Barrier Reef and is a beautiful stretch of swirly fine sands and stunning turquoise water to visit.

Honestly, it’s the kind of place you visit if you really want to explore the natural beauty that surrounds Australia. It’s stunning.

Part of the Lizard Island National Park, it’s pretty easy to get to. Plus, you can stay for a few days and just explore at your own pace, too. There’s no need to rush here.

6.) 75-Mile Beach, Fraser Island

As the name suggests, this endless stretch of beautiful sandy beach goes on for miles and miles and is one of the more dramatic and best beaches in Australia to visit.

After exploring the beach area itself, pop over to Indian Head for some stunning views of the island, too.

Also, Fraser Island has lots of places to camp and really delve into nature here. So, if that’s your thing, then pop across for a good few days and enjoy this beautiful area of Australia.

7.) Whitehaven Beach, Whitsunday Islands

Whitehaven is not only one of the best beaches in Australia, it’s also one of the top beaches in the world!

Honestly, it’s truly breathtaking and a totally gorgeous place to see. Now, you can easily get to Whitehaven Beach from Airlie Beach or Shute Harbour. This makes it really easy to visit when here.

Honestly, swimming here is gorgeous.

8.) Byron Bay, New South Wales

Byron Bay is a town where you can take yoga classes on the beach, see fire dancers, and enjoy walking around a hip area of Australia.

It’s the perfect place to not only visit a chilled but lovely town but also spend some time at one of the best beaches on offer across the country. Over the years, it has really made a name for itself as the place for travellers to enjoy. You really can’t miss it when in New South Wales.

9.) Sunshine Beach, Noosa, Queensland

This little beach is a hidden gem and definitely off the beaten track, slightly.

Back in the day, it used to be called the Golden Beach and is one for truly getting away from it all (whatever ‘it’ is) and having some much-needed chill-out time. Just make sure to take lots of coral safe sunblock here, the sun is very strong.

10.) Cable Beach, Broome

Cable Beach has what seems like endless stretches of pure white sand and this easily makes it one of the best beaches in Australia to visit!

Not only that, the water is stunning. Imagine, crystal clear waters and lots of sunshine. It’s totally idyllic. Though, just be cautious of Box jellyfish that can be present in the water here. No one likes getting stung!

11.) Turquoise Bay, Exmouth

Honestly, you will find some of the best snorkelling in Turquoise Bay.

The whole area is so beautiful! Especially with the crystal-clear waters, beautiful coral formations, and sea turtles. It really is one of the best beaches in Australia.

Best of all, the reef is so close and accessible, too.

12.) Bay of Fires, Tasmania

The orange-red rock formations found at the Bay of Fires definitely makes this one of the best beaches in Australia to visit. This is especially true when you’re already on the island of Tasmania.

Afterwards, take some time to explore the rest of the island and see Cradle Mountain and Freycinet National Park. It’s a beautiful place.

13.) Bondi Beach, Sydney

A good old favourite, Bondi Beach is probably the most famous beach in Australia!

Every traveller worth their salt will most likely have popped over here at least once whilst in the country.

Though, even if you haven’t been, it’s really easy to visit when you’re based in Sydney. Yes, the beach can be very busy (and Bronti Beach and pool), so you might want to find a quieter spot if you don’t like the crowds.
