In the past 12 months, I’ve picked up something of a new habit. Cave exploring! Prior to this though, I would avoid caves as much as possible. I was never a fan of wandering around aimlessly in the dark but one of the biggest realisations that changed my mind entirely was the realisation that caves are great storage repositories of natural history. Fossils, minerals, glow worms, water bodies and so much more can be found in caves and they can be pretty impressive when you get to see them in person.
I’m not much of a geographer (Lloyd is) so the whole fascination with things like stalagmites and stalactites is entirely lost on me but even with my relative geography ignorance, every cave I’ve visited over the last year has impressed me even more than the last with all the detail, heritage and stories contained within.
