It’s at the opposite end of the island from the capital, it’s not really got a lot of shops and houses and you’d be hard-pressed to find hordes of tourists milling around here but Akrotiri in Santorini is one of the places you should definitely visit in Santorini and here’s why!
1.) The Ancient Grecian Ruins:
A lot of Santorini’s history can be seen right here and evidence of people living here has been traced back to the the 5th millennium B.C! The ruins have been very well preserved as the city was destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Thera around 1627. The ruins are essential to any trip in Santorini and you have to see them when you visit.
2.) The churches and little villages you can visit: No tourists and amazing views (like below) all to yourself? The decision to spend an afternoon or two here is a no-brainer really…
3.) The spectacular view of all of Santorini from Akrotiri: No other place on the island has quite a similar view (let’s face it – if you’re in the cities, it’s not like you can get a good view of the cities). The views from this end of the island are truly marvellous and definitely worth the drive here!
