Perched not too far from Mainland Greece, Skiathos is one of the most beautiful Greek islands to visit. It’s an Aegean Sea gem that’s got all the whitewashed quaint towns, beautiful bays and stunning vistas that make Greece so special. Though, with so many places, it can be tough to whittle down which of the very best things to do in Skiathos.
Yes, the island of Skiathos is small; but that’s all part of its charm. I loved my visit and the whole Greek island experience is just gorgeous.
So, to help you get the most out of your trip, I wanted to share my top places in Skaithos that I loved. This way, you can focus on all the relaxing, chilling and culture.
Have the most amazing time visiting Greece. Especially Skiathos.
1.) Ramble around Kastro
For some of the best views in Skaithos, firstly get yourself up to Kastro. It’s pretty easy to drive to the parking area and you can easily wander around the coast or hike the dusty trails here.
Once here, make sure to stop off at the Castle ruins and see the Little Church in the Castle that’s so quaint.
The whole area is filled with religious buildings and castle which dates all the way back to the 14th century. Climb to the top of a rocky hilltop, and look out to the sea.
Oh, and don’t forget to stop off at Kastro Beach which, although small, is well worth stopping off at as part of a wider boat tour around Skiathos.

4.) Skiathos Town
Fancy a little trip into town? Pop over to Skiathos Town which has heaps of little restaurants, gorgeous streets and a historic harbour area that you can’t miss.
If you’re into your museums, check out the Museum of Naval and Culture. Afterwards, stop. by some of the little coffee houses and bars that line the winding alleys.
Getting hungry? Be sure to grab a bite at Marmita.
Their menu is typically Greek and delicious. Afterwards, take a visit to the Old Port of Skiathos, which is not too far from the little streets itself. It’s picture-perfect.
Explore all the incredible sites that you can find on your trip. Oh, and don’t forget to take a ramble to the Agios Nikolaos Church which has some epic views across Skiathos Town.
Once here, go inside and explore the tower. Be aware that you may have to hike up a lot of steps to the top. Plus, it’s a great place to go for sunset, especially to watch the orange hues dazzle across the town.
For dinner, head to Alexandros and eat at the outdoor tables. It’s a great spot for fresh seafood.
We loved it.
Oh, and don’t get confused if you see signs for ‘chora‘ around the island (or any other small Greek islands).
Chora means town in Greece and is typically used with the island being named the same as the main town itself.

5.) Koukaniers Beach
Love a good beach? Then you’ll be spoilt for choice in Skiathos. There are so many epic beaches and visiting is easily one of the best things to do in Skiathos if you want a more chilled day on the shore.
First up, head to Koukaniers Beach, which can be pretty popular; but for good reason. rent an umbrella and take a dip in the warm water. although it never gets rammed, it can get busier on weekends or during peak times.
Take plenty of SPF, water and a beach towel if you don’t fancy renting an umbrella.
6.) Monastery of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary
This a long name, but the Holy Monastery (|of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary) dates all the way back to the 1700s. This all makes a visit one of the best things to do in Skiathos if you love history.
Not only is it scenic, but it has a great history that dates back centuries. Inside the monastery is a library, a museum, and also a chapel. Learn about its invigorating history, enjoy a snack and look over the view.
Yes, there’s a small entrance fee to go inside, but it’s totally worth it when exploring Skiathos.

7.) Mikros Aselinos
Nestled on the west coast, exploring Mikros Aselinos is one of the best things to do in Skiathos when looking for a chilled day.
Head to the beautiful Mikros Aselinos beach, explore the relatively nearby Parissis Winery and stop by Ligaries View that’s totally lovely.
Driving here? Just be sure to be ready for the small roads in Skiathos. They can be tricky if you’re used to North American roads.
8.) Skopelos Island
The neighbouring island of Skopelos is right next to Skiathos; making it a gem to explore. Not only is it totally beautiful but really easy to explore by boat from Skiathos.
It’s an epic day sailing in a totally gorgeous yacht. Best of all, you can book a small group tour or a private tour, depending on which best suits you.
Just make sure you see the quaint Agios Ioannis and see the Chapel of St. John. Plus, give yourself plenty of time to chill at Agios Ioannis Beach, too.
9.) Paralia Troullos
Another spot has to be Paralia Troullos. This is another gem of a beach in Skiathos and one easy spot to visit when staying on the southwest of the island. It’s the perfect place to go if you’re driving as you can easily visit some of the smaller coves around this area, too.
Nearby, you’ve also got the intimate little Katharina Beach. It’s a tiny little cove that’s totally beautiful.

10.) Xanemos Beach
Finally, don’t forget to head to the pebbled beach of Xanemos Beach. Yes, it’s right next to the runway (at the airport) but it’s a pretty unique experience if you love planes.
Due to the small size of Skaithos, the runway starts right at the beach and planes are so low when you’re on the beach. It’s a mix of exhilaration and fear to see up close!
Though, if that’s not your thing, try one of the other sandy beaches instead.
