The return from Gugh and St Agnes, led straight to the garden for an afternoon nap (all that fresh air will do that to you), followed by dinner at the Ruin Beach cafe.
Ruin Beach cafe is exactly as it sounds, a restaurant set amidst the ruins on the beach. It has one the nicest views on the island and is another restaurant of note.
I skipped the preamble and went straight for a crab pasta (which was actually quite delicious). Lloyd went for a steak and forgot to order sides. (That was rectified later).
After dinner, we hopped onto our bicycles and went off exploring more of Tresco island…
It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited in Europe and definitely in the UK!
The Old Blockhouse here is a centuries old gun tower which has some of the best views on the island…
Eventually, we decided to hop back on our bikes, explore more of the island and get ready for the change of home locations to the most populous island on the Isles of Scilly – St Mary’s Island.
The next day, we said farewell to Thatch we arrived at the Isles of Scilly Country
The apple strudel is made fresh everyday and the offer to try it out was too good to resist!
But let’s take a step back and take you on a quick tour of the Isles of Scilly Country
And heading on inside…
Before I popped out to the garden for my apple strudel fix. Warm apple strudel, swimming in syrup, served with ice cream AND cream (my choice out of utter indecisiveness)
…and yes, I had apple juice to go with it too.
After my apple strudel fix, we walked into town to get our ride for the day. The choice was between getting either bicycles or a golf buggy (which was slightly pricier). The lure of the golf buggy was too much to resist….
And off we went exploring St Mary’s Island…
…pleased as punch with our new set of wheel!!!
We went in search of Star Castle which has a pub in the dungeon. I decided it probably made sense to have lunch here. It does not. The drinks are great and the atmosphere is definitely something unique and different but the food in the dungeon is probably best avoiding. I’ll let you know where you should go to eat on the island in the next post. 🙂 (As per usual, I have way too many photos to fit into one post).
We finally headed out (pleased to be over with lunch) and eager to see more of St Mary’s
There are so many cute bunnies around by the way…
The islands are truly something special…
After a few hours wandering around, it was decided it was time to head back to the guesthouse for check in properly… (which eventually led to nap time). I swear, there is definitely something in the island air here but I’m not complaining, this was one of the most relaxed and thoroughly energising holidays I’ve had in quite a while!
