Last time we were here, we left knowing South Africa was too good not to come back to.
A few short months later, we’re back again in South Africa but instead of going on safari or heading off to explore the justifiably popular (and rather exciting) Cape Town, we’ve kinda gone off the beaten track a tad here for most visitors from the UK (I have to stress the word *slightly) and headed towards Port Elizabeth and the Garden of South Africa’s Garden Route – Tsitsikamma National Park. (FYI, these two places couldn’t look and feel any more different from being on safari or in Cape Town).
But here’s the exciting bit – we’ve been challenged to see how far £400 can get you in a week! (A challenge we all too happily accepted!) Last time we were here, we’d pretty much pre-booked everything for safari (the safari was all sorted for meals and game drives). Cape Town however was the only place where we didn’t make too many plans in advance so, we kinda have us a head-start on this challenge (*sssh, don’t tell anyone) as we already knew that £400 would take us very far indeed (for instance, a glass of bubbly costs £1-£2, 3 course meals are like £10, some tours costs as little as £4!) 🙂
This time is a whole different kettle as apart from accommodation, we’ve made literally 0 plans in advance. We’re making things up as we go along and truly embracing spontaneity in South Africa. I can’t even pretend – it’s been exhilarating and very liberating to just wing it.
Will try to update you as often as possible but an inextricably linked part of ‘winging it’ means having unreliable access to the internet but when I do have access, you can find what we get up to mostly on Snapchat (our username is HandLuggageOnly).
Here are some photos from our time so far! 🙂
*Our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter will also get updated (look out for our #RollingInRands hashtag) but Snapchat is gonna be the main one we’ll be using as we’ve found it’s so much easier to capture the moment without over thinking it. That and the fact that we’re slightly addicted to Snapchat now.
