Thailand is a place that always surprises me.
I remember the first time I visited – we were heading to Phuket and then to Phi Phi Islands – and I just had such a totally different expectation of Thailand. Movie and TV shows I’d seen had depicted it as a hectic, manic and uber-humid place and so I arrived totally expecting something different from the truth.
That first trip just showed how utterly beautiful and amazing Thailand was (see case in point here and here… and I’ll leave more links below too) and couldn’t be further from my expectations. We had days spend on the most beautiful beaches I’d ever seen, paddled into hidden water-logged jungles in the middle of caves and snorkelled in some of the most pristine waters chock-filled with myriads of colourful animals.
Going back to Thailand on my latest trip, and especially so as it was to the huge Thai city of Bangkok, again, I had different expectations. When I think of it, I can’t fully put my finger on what my expectations were what I do know is that I didn’t expect it to be half as nearly as relaxed as I found it.
Like don’t get me wrong – Bankok is essentially whatever you choose to make of it! If you wanna party, you’ve come to the right place. If you want to relax pool-side in the lap of luxury, you’ve come to the right place. If you want to check out amazing architecture and history, you’ve come to the right place.
It’s a brilliant city and does what all brilliant cities across the world do – they let you have whatever experiences suit your best and so let you have the best holiday possible. Essentially, whatever it is you’re looking for in a holiday, you’ll find it here.
This is reflected in the age groups that visit too! We’ve talking babies that can barely walk (with their families, of course) right up to grand (and probably great grand) parents!
