The Isles of Scilly are a picturesque set of islands off the coast of Cornwall and are nothing like any island you’ve ever seen in the UK.
The island’s beaches, clear blue waters, warm temperature and even the plants will probably leave you feeling like you’ve taken a trip to a tropical Caribbean island – not a set of islands just minutes away from the UK mainland (if you fly from Lands Ends it’s a 15 minute flight, from Newquay it’s 30 minutes and from Exeter 60 minutes).
Flight details are available on the official website here, though you can also take a passenger ship over to the islands from Penzance Harbour (it takes 2 hours and 40 minutes and arrives at St Mary’s).
We’re off to explore these Isles in a lot more detail over the next week and will (as per usual) keep you updated via Facebook and Instagram. I’ll try to share more stuff on Instagram (I feel like the island is probably best captured in photos), but I’ll also try to put more uncensored and unedited photos and videos on good old Snapchat (our username is HandLuggageOnly).
In any case, I’ve been so excited about visiting. I didn’t even know it was possible to go snorkelling with seals.
Trust me, when it arrives at your doorstep, you’ll understand why I said you should get it (the online one’s great, but the physical copy beats having the online version).
